Messing with books, birthday eve
Aug. 26th, 2011 09:19 pmThe time had come to admit that I wasn't going to scan all the public-domain-aged books I had collected (and still will collect at times), and I found that The Internet Archive will take them, so I was able to free up some space on my shelves by getting a box of books around to send in (probably the first of several). A lot of what I was hoarding they already had, tho, so I have three plastic shopping bags full of ancient books to try to unload somewhere (I've got a bookstore that might take some in trade, then they get donated to a local library). Pretty good deal, really.
While messing around with rearranging the shelves a bit after that, I found this tucked away in a book, and I just have to show it off:

I also got my birthday present from
notjessica and
mjoanne today! They got me the Scott Pilgrim box set; I had only read the first volume and was needing the rest of it, and the box set is just so nifty-looking, with pixel art and everything. ^_^ As a bonus, they included "How to Avoid Making Art," a little book of cartoons by Julia Cameron (of "The Artist's Way" fame), which I'm enjoying, with inevitable moments of "oops, yeah, I've done that" ("Let your studio accumulate enough clutter that work becomes impossible there;" "Mentally read the bad reviews you will get" ...) So thanks, Sis! Thanks Jo! ^_^
On my birthday tomorrow, we're going to the old college town; maybe I'll find something cool there, too. Afterward, I probably will buy myself something online, also, but I keep going back and forth whether to go to Amazon or Kinokuniya.
Still working on the Allison and Lillia 'fic bit by bit; hope to have it done before too long, and I probably won't worry about polishing it up too much...
