Not a full-blown review, just a report. I finished Moribito. It is awesome and you should all watch and/or read it. The anime is at Crunchyroll; not all of it is free yet, but they seem to be adding free episodes at a rate of four per week (Netflix had it, but was streaming the dub, and yes, I am so much of a dub-atheist that I made them send me the discs instead).
And my library even had the corresponding book (the first two in the series were translated by Scholastic; the anime only covers book 1, which was the only one I could get). This time I got the show first, then the book; it's a fast read and much more lean and spare than the 26-episode anime (pages per episode = 10). The anime did a really good job of fleshing the story out more, adding extra twists and turns, and embellishing around it. I could point to things I like better on both sides, so I'll just wholeheartedly say that they're both good.
(I don't seem to post about anything but anime and manga anymore...)
ETA: the anime is also on Hulu.
