And by technical difficulties, I mean my badfic phobia/allergy is acting up.
When I said the other day bets were being taken which Kokoro adaptation I'd like better, I wasn't being fair to any rhetorical takers. That day I failed watching the anime at about fifteen minutes in, and was getting* the 1955 live action adaptation as a way to bribe myself into actually watching it. For some reason I had a lot of trepidation going into this one, and every time I try to watch it, it gets worse as my fears are confirmed and then some. On the first try, I threw in the towel after seeing enough to know that they had lopped off three quarters of the book and butchered what was left. On this attempt I find out that they butchered what was left TWICE as they TURNED IT INTO F***ING RASHOMON! Akutagawa day comes later and doesn't include "In a Grove"---you don't get to sneak it in the back door, and even the people in that story could agree what time of year it was for gods' sake!
I currently have it stopped on the precipice overlooking the second version/half and I just know it's gonna hurt like hell. -_-;; The light of vintage J-cinema at the end of the tunnel might not be enough...
That badfic allergy is a real pain in the ass sometimes.
*I was a naughty girl and went torrent fishing for the 1955 version; it was released in the UK but not in the States.
