Remembering the Kanji v1 clear; Yuletide?
Sep. 26th, 2011 12:30 pmMy parents are back home now.
In trying to brush up my Japanese, I had been working through Remembering the Kanji by James Heisig (with unofficial web tools), and over the weekend I finally got to the end of the general-use kanji! It feels good. There are still about 800 more uncommon characters available in that stuff, and I'll continue to add them slowly, but not something to get bogged down in right now...
I was also saying to a friend via IM that I've perhaps been ficcing under a rock too long. All that about community and toolkits and mentoring? Haven't seen it lately, myself, or even had a beta reader since I moved back here. At this point I admit I can be intimidated by the whole thing, like among all the various "you're doing it wrong" brainweasels is a sneaking suspicion that there are social norms here I don't understand and wouldn't fit in with if I did...
But now as a way to connect and have a little adventure, I think I'm going to do Yuletide this year. Um, wish me luck?
