Check in, that last fic, Saiunkoku
Sep. 23rd, 2011 02:46 pmI have started on that last longer and more challenging Allison & Lillia fic; it's going in fits and starts so far, but I have at least mostly got the crucial opening scene in which our lead couple just blows it (and I *think* it comes off as believable from both ends and not too contrived...). I still want to have this done by November, but if worse comes to worse and I don't, I can count work on it toward my NaNo totals; I already do the "work on pre-existing story" cheat, so what would adding the "work on more than one story" cheat really matter?
Still poking at the translations; the current After 0 one is a bit challenging because it references a lot of real-world places/people/things. Thank god for the internet is all I'll say (yes, you can just google "大唐西域記" and get somewhere in pretty short order). Once I get the above-mentioned fic done, I'm thinking I'll switch gears and try my hand at the first Allison novel, but I don't want to be doing both the 'fic and translation of the canon at the same time, so until then you'll get another After 0 story or two. I also found raws of all the Saiunkoku novels, so yeah, no shortage of stuff to play with translating (although a Kinokuniya order is still a temptation anyway).
Speaking of Saiunkoku, it's the one anime I'm actively watching now, and I'm enjoying it more and more. If (as per![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
quicksilver_ink) The Twelve Kingdoms is Fushigi Yuugi with balls, I'd say Saiunkoku Monogatari is Fushigi Yuugi with heart and brains. So many of the characters are just the right lovable mix of amusingly silly, respectably competent, and touchingly vulnerable, it becomes more and more of a joy to watch them...
My parents are off at a church conference until Sunday night at the earliest, so I'm enjoying the quiet, having the house to myself, making favorite foods they don't like... (Did Japanese curry last night, and tonight's plan is Lobster Newburg!)
