This Fushigi Yuugi thing cropped up just in time to throw my NaNoWriMo vs. NaNoMangO calculation all out of whack. The former is now probably more likely, although I could be masochistic and attempt both at once...
I'm at the point of making summary and not actual draft yet, but a couple of things I keep reminding myself about this prospective project (and at this point the brainstorming) are very liberating: "For this, I can write badly on purpose," and "You know, I don't have to keep that (meaning an event from the original or previous plans)."
Recently it occurred to me that there was no reason I had to kill Suzuno, and that in fact it was pretty stupid how that happened. I made her a librarian instead, and from there I got sidetracked into working out how her Byakko no Miko quest had gone (I was very cruel to Tatara, victim of his own awesomely useful powers...). Given the license of writing badly on purpose, I'm going to have to lever it in...
Still the internal critic occasionally comes up with the old refrain of "Oh, it's the original that's really good and you're just too blind to see it!" but, er... with Fushigi Yuugi, I am keenly aware that I couldn't say that to anyone but myself without laughing.
