Jo brought it to my attention that I had vanished off the face of the internet lately, so I realized* I should start posting here, even if it's just casual stuff.

Saturday we went to my old college town; I'd call it more fun than productive, but it was fun. Sadly what was once the best used book store in the history of ever has shriveled into a kiosk at an antique mall, but it still has a little of the old magic. The natural food store was just disappointing. At the hippie stores downtown I got some new incense---I seem to like incense more than scented candles, and I'm actually developing some brand loyalty toward Nippon Kodo and their "MorningStar" line. I already had and loved Amber and Vanilla, and this time I got Musk and Lotus---I didn't expect Lotus to have such a sweet fruity smell.

There was also an Asian Grocery downtown; I don't think it's actually better than the one closest to me, but it was ironically more accessible just then, and they did have House brand cold-brew barley tea; I made some up tonight and it's great. The barley tea I had before, I had to boil the living hell out of it to get it to work at all, this stuff just turned water beautiful golden brown and tasty in one hour in the fridge. I also got some chocolate snacks, a pretty pair of chopsticks, and the big thing was I bought Mom a Benriner mandolin slicer (and eventually realized that the name is more likely a Japanese pun than a German word: "benrinaa" would mean something like "isn't this convenient?").

I still miss living in that hippie college town.

* (gah, ever since my Harry Potter phase I want to spell it "realised")
