Welcome, Sonia!

Earlier than expected, the new computer arrived yesterday. I love it already. The styling of it looks like a villain from TRON or something, it boots up crazy fast, it doesn't have a "warranty void if seal is broken" sticker on its case---in fact it came with a manual showing where all the user-serviceable bits are on the inside. And, inexplicably yet at times conveniently, it has a handle in the top. It's awesome. And I named it Sonia, because I'm still out of my mind.
(Sonia being a character from Psychic Force, you know. Of the various androids/cyborgs in it, she's my favorite, plus naming it Setsuna would just have been inviting an inopportune power supply failure. Not that naming a computer after anyone from PF is all that safe --- and I do think about these things after what happened to Shishio* --- but one can only concede so much to superstition...)
So my computer saga is *mostly* finished. Early next week I intend to go have Hermione's hard drive put into Sonia, then figure out how to rearrange its partitions and boot up in Ubuntu, but that should be manageable. And in the meantime I can start settling in. It almost feels weird after going for weeks without one...
*Yes, a few computers ago, during my Rurouni Kenshin phase, I named one Shishio. When I started having trouble with it, friends had me reformat/reinstall and every which thing to no avail, until someone tracked down the problem --- a fan had gone out and Shishio was overheating. ^_^;;; In the computer's case it was fixable and it worked fine until, IIRC, the motherboard cracked because it had only been put in with two screws. I haven't trusted TigerDirect since that time...
