I asked Machineries of Tarot what my prognosis was for writing today using the Vidona spread:

Deuce of Gears
A cog in the machine. Pawn of powers beyond your control.

AUGGGGGGGGGGGGH

(Yes, Jedao was being snarkastic when he chose it for his emblem.)

Also, I love my catten but...she's not very bright? She likes to sit on the ping pong table and will remain sprawled on it when the Dragon and I start up a game. The ball hits her in the leg, she remains sprawled. It took the next ball hitting her in the snout for her to skitter-kitter off the table. *facepalm*

That's not the part where she's not very bright. The part where she's not very bright is that she was on the ping pong table during a game yesterday and got hit in the snout by a ball then, causing her to skitter-kitter off the table. You would think she'd figure out that ping pong game in progress = don't sprawl on the table waiting to be hit in the snout?

Me: I got hungry and dug out Grandma's recipes. I had not previously noticed the one called "canned string bean and pig innards casserole. The instructions are "dump open a can of string beans and cut open a pig."

Sister: WTF, Grandma.

Me: If you keep reading, it's a decoy meant to distract from the fact that it's really the recipe for a secret pineapple pie. A pie so secret we've never heard of it until now.

Sister: Yes, the deepest level of secrecy.

Me: Also, the recipe for her Jell-O salad says you can use either the small or large can of pineapple but "if it's the larger can, you can go ahead and eat some first." And includes instructions for how to fix it when you fuck it up.

Sister: Oh, that's useful. It's like Grandma knew her audience was gonna need that.

batman: Dana Icarusia from Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (the tomboy Maiden)
[personal profile] batman
Hey, who remembers me saying that I wasn't going to be playing any more Falcom games because I wanted to try out new publishers? Not me, apparently, as last week I finished Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. I meant to write about this earlier but didn't. I actually really liked the game, which i suppose comes as a surprise to no one.

Lacrimosa of Dana: literal dinosaurs, moonshine, and that one time Adol ruined everything. )

Anyway! I enjoyed the game a lot, though it's not my favourite Ys game (I'm pretty sure that's Ys Origin) and I look forward to seeing what direction it takes the Ys series into for future games. Let's just hope that someone other than NISA localises it.

Next games post will be about Steins;Gate as I have already finished the original VN and have two endings to get before I finish off Steins;Gate 0. It'll mostly be me going "damn this series was made for me I wish I had played it in time to request it for Yuletide". Y'all are all warned. THEN I will do Virtue's Last Reward, as I wanted a break after finishing The Longest Journey in terms of puzzle games. Or I will cave and play the latest Dangan Ronpa game and join you all in protagonist shipping hell.

It's funny--I adore this show but declined to request it for Yuletide. Besides it being a highly jossable canon, what I really want is bona fide philosophy neepery, and I'm pretty sure 99% of the fandom wants to write about relationships. There's plenty of shipfic I would read for this fandom, but I really really want philosophy neepery. And, I mean, 2.5 was basically my Platonic ideal in terms of episode content.

I cleaned up my circle a little bit. Mostly I just removed accounts that haven't been updated in three years or more but if you are still here and reading, or if I clicked the wrong thing and removed you in error, let me know and I'll fix it. ♥

Because today has been a Day for uninteresting reasons, I present to you a song that makes me happy: Anne Murray's "I Just Fall in Love Again" [Youtube].

(I'm Texan. I grew up on country, okay? ^_^)

Feel free to link to Youtube versions of songs that make you happy! I expect yours are less mushy than mine. ^_^

The Fucking Weather: This morning was absolutely miserable! Nothing wakes ya' up quite like windy wet snowflakes directly in yer eyeballs, I tell you. :V I didn't even realize how bad it was snowing until I stepped out of the house... Ugh, I am not looking forward to more of this nonsense. Snow shouldn't be wet; it's just wrong, man. Anyway -

Night driving attempt: Successful!

I did not die, I did not crash into anything, yadda yadda. The last time that I did any driving in the dark, there was snow on the ground, so... all things considered, I did pretty well.

Been a bundle of nerves all day at the very thought of practising, because I haven't been doing it much (honestly, I was so anxious, I kind of felt sick) but I really need to get better at all this, so....

One thing is for sure - holy shit, when it's dark and there's no snow, visibility is garbage. I should have considered that, but I hadn't. Man, it's so much easier to see everything when there's snow on the ground. Not sure if it's a good trade-off for how slippery everything gets, though. ;p

Guess I'll have to practice a little bit more and then try... driving on major roads... in the dark. [/puts face in hands] AUGHHHH.

Music: To reward myself for giving anxiety a kick in the ass, I treated myself to this recently-released EP by Riit. Give her music a listen if you like pretty vocals in Inuktitut backed with throat singing, or if you're a fan of The Jerry Cans - one of the tracks ("Kina") is a Riit + Jerry Cans collaboration, and it's excellent. And ahh there is a translation of that song in the lyric video over on youtube, which is great. I always appreciate it when translations are available somewhere. (It's not like I can throw Inuktitut lyrics into googletranslate, after all...)

*PRIMAL SCREAM*

So Joe was at D.C. as a LIGO Livingston representative for the press conference on neutron stars gravity waves blah blah and just came home but that's not the part that's making me scream.

He stayed at a hotel four blocks from the White House, which is also not the part that's making me scream.

No: his hotel was ONE BLOCK away from a fountain pen store (Fahrney's) AND HE DIDN'T BUY ME ANYTHING AND BRING IT HOME AS A YOON-OFFERING.

I wasn't expecting him to buy me a fountain pen! (Among other things, Joe has not the faintest clue about fountain pens, let alone what I like.) But he could have bought me a bottle of ink! They would have had ink. And ink is relatively affordable.

*weeps*

Next time he goes to D.C. I'M COMING WITH.

I have informed him that my favorite colors are red and blue. I mean, I like a lot of colors, but this is Joe. He is confused by stationery supplies, so I want to keep it simple for him. He's only an astrophysics Ph.D, not expected to understand things like ink colors. ;)

I MAY BE BITTER.

(He read this over my shoulder then laughed at me. *shakes tiny fist* CURSE YOU, MY BELOVED JOE. CURSE YOU VERY MUCH. Imagine this said in the tone of Batman in the LEGO Batman Movie when he says, "I...hate you.")

In the meantime, I backed the Marigold Tarot (hat tip to [personal profile] pengwern) so I shouldn't complain. :p

☆ RL: Grumble mutter municipal election mumblemumble stood in line for an hour BLARGH. Oh well, at least that's over with. I really should have gone with my instincts and voted in advance, I mean, really - ah, well.

☆ More RL: Augh it's getting so dark so early and it's starting to drive me batty already, this bites. But at least it hasn't snowed again. And the moon was so pretty this morning...

☆ Random music rec: Into the Trees by Zoe Keating. 's another good one for those who like cello music. Favourite track on this is, hmm... Probably "Hello Night", or "The Path", or... it's hard to pick one, honestly. They're all lovely. Anyway, yes, give this one a listen if you love beautiful string instrumentals, and cello in particular.

☆ Signups for [community profile] mini_wrimo are open! It's a bite-sized version of NaNo - the goal is to write something every day; the amount you do is up to you. I don't think I'll be doing this, because I can't manage it every day (though I'm going to try anyway) but I figured that perhaps some of you would be interested in it.

☆ Speaking of NaNo... hooo boy, I'm not sure what I'm even going to do. I kind of want to try to write 20k, but who knows? 5k is probably more realistic. WE WILL SEE. (Come to think of it, I... should check to see if there will be write-ins in my town again. At a time that I can attend, that is. Hmm.)

Tistow: Ahhh so, Elli's started posting it! Finally! Yay! First page* is the only one up for now, but she'll be posting one every two days until the 31st. Fooor those who don't know, Tistow is a comic inspired by Victorian England, with a focus on the working class. Identity will also be a major theme. And there'll be a dollop of magic as well, a bit later on. So, if that sounds interesting, perhaps check on the 31st when the first 8 pages will all be up - or read along as they get posted. <3 (Also, have I mentioned that Elli's art is gorgeous? Because it sure is gorgeous. Hooo boy. If you like pretty webcomics, well, here's one.)
