Wrote a double first
Oct. 23rd, 2011 10:33 pmHad a long but lovely day out today; after church one of my friends from the Unitarian Fellowship was having a birthday reception, so I went to that and got to hang out more with people from there. They're a great group, and it's nice to have people I feel like I can open up to IRL.
But as mentioned, one effect of the raw-site feeding frenzy was that I slacked off on writing and haven't done it for like a week (the longest lull since I started that reverse-chronological sequence of Allison & Lillia fics); meanwhile bunnies are still adding themselves to the queue. An angsty Natsume Yuujinchou 'fic is bugging me now, and today something tugged on my sleeve saying "Hey, I've been in your brain like forever! I want to be a drabble!" and I was like "Okay, you can go to the head of the line."
I had never done a drabble before (once I came close, but never a proper 100-words-on-the-nose like this), so it's a first there, and it is also my first (probably only) Fullmetal Alchemist 'fic...
That really had been in my brain for ages (although only when it came to bug me today did I think of how to fit Mustang into it), and maybe I tend to think big too much and pass over the possibility of communicating an idea like that so simply, directly, and casually. Probably put it on Ao3 tomorrow. I guess they take those at FF.net...
(Meanwhile internal critic is screaming that I screwed it up or everyone's thought of it before and I just don't know because I don't get out enough, but you gotta soldier on...)
ADDENDUM: the drabble is now posted at Ao3 and at FF.net.

Yes, it’s glee. I never give you what you ask for, but I always give you what you really want.
A woman snatched for the warmth of family, afraid she was losing it --- I sent her tumbling into her husband’s arms. A boy wanted to be a better man than his father --- I put him on that road. His brother wanted to go further, just once to be the special one --- he did, and he was. A man had seen things he never wanted to see again...
But when he came the last time, he knew what he really wanted.
