I don't remember many details of the anime all that well either, at this point. Mostly "Miaka! Tamahome! Miaka! Tamahome!" and then one or the other running off for no good reason other than to create dramatic tension.
If and when they summon the god, a price for that is that they can't have children.
That's one of your worldbuilding additions, right? It's an interesting one. It makes sense as a complement to the "no sex before summoning" rule that canon provided.
