Yeah, the plot in the first half of NiF 2 is often quite stupid, especially near the end. I liked the second half much better (but not so much that I'd say you really should continue watching.)
I've also stopped following AkaYona canon shortly after the Xing arc, though maybe that was just because for some reason I rarely manage to regularly follow mangas. Maybe I'll catch up again soon.
