Dear Yuletide Writer 2014

Hello, Writer (and other Yuletiders)! Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you're having a fun Yuletide!
Things to avoid: I have a major humiliation/embarrassment squick. Not big on genre/setting-change AUs. My happy zone for sex in fic is too mysterious and idiosyncratic for me to lead you into that minefield, and while I have no problem with violence in general, I'm mostly requesting fandoms where I happen not to want that kind of thing (except of course for the one "shameless, asskicking power fantasy" request).
Things I like: I tend to like genfic and, how to say, idea-oriented fics that uncover or work through issues and fridge logic with characters, situations, worldbuilding, etc., but I'm also up for relationships and fluff. I do like fixer-upper and "what if?" type AUs.
My prompts:
Note, pretty much all of my requested fandoms are "gimme"s --- even if you've never heard of them, the canon is pretty short, so you could easily get up to speed.
The Cat Who Wished to Be a Man - Lloyd Alexander
Lionel, Gillian
A fond childhood memory that I recently reread (recently recalling how much I love Lloyd Alexander’s stuff). Lionel hits a lot of sweet spots for me; I love outwardly-grown-yet-inwardly-innocent characters and sapient animals and yes, interspecies romance. Gillian is awesome, but sadly canon does frame her as the token woman, love interest, and yes, damsel in distress despite her best efforts. Pretty much whatever you want to do with these two. Lionel filling in more gaps in his knowledge of how to be a human, how Gillian approaches this relationship now that she knows Lionel is a former cat, a feminist reclamation with Gillian and maybe some women OC friends of hers, etc. No explicit sex or beyond-canon-typical violence, please.

I mostly put what I wanted to say in my prompts. I had also nominated Dr. Tudbelly and Magister Stephanus and am fond of them, but I’d prefer focus on Lionel and/or Gillian, so don’t feel like you need to use the others unless you just want to. It's one book, short and breezy.
Michi - yumirose (Minna no Uta music video)
no characters
I love this little music video. I’m fascinated by a world where streetcars are alive and people raise them from tiny pups, and the situation between the woman and the driver is so lightly sketched yet vividly human, I thought it could make for good fic. When she sees the geese, what does it mean to her? When the driver looks up at the end, is he looking at the geese, the omamori, or both, and what does it mean to him? And seriously, what’s up with the living streetcars?? No sex or violence, please.

In a slate full of gimme fandoms, this is one of the ultimate gimme fandoms, a single 2-1/2 minute music video. Not much to add. As well as the thing for animals I also have a thing for living and even sapient machines, but I don’t necessarily see the streetcar as intelligent, it would just be if you wanted to play it that way.
Haroun and the Sea of Stories
no characters
My wish: write us as fanfic authors into this story-world. Do our exploits make the Walrus tear his mustache? Do the Water Genies think something’s wrong when fanfic comes (or doesn’t come) out of the tap? Do the Eggheads perform experiments on fanfic story streams, and if so, what do they find? Are the Guppees bemused by humans who freak out about fanfic, or do they freak out too at first before they learn more about what’s happening? Of course, I like to think we’re good for the ocean... Self-insertion is okay if you want to, but please don’t go any further into Fandom RPF, and please no sex or violence in the main story (for what goes on in story streams there’s a lot more leeway; please just avoid explicitly describing sex scenes or extreme violence).

Again, a single book, short and breezy (less so than Cat Who Wished but still). If you haven't read this one, I highly recommend it, whether you plan to write about it or not.
Hataraku Maou-sama!
Yusa Emi | Emilia Justina
This is my wish: Emi(lia) being awesome and kicking ass. I really enjoyed the show, but had an ongoing frustration that Emi the legendary hero was never allowed to kick ass the way Maou did. Early on (I think episode 4) there was a suggestion that her powers were fueled by love, but later there were energy drinks (although maybe the fact that they were care packages from home had a lot to do with their power?) and then she got nerfed and damselized by a jerk-ass angel (can’t help you there). She’s awesome anyway, but I want to see her get to kick ass --- maybe even save Maou. Yes, bring on the shameless power fantasy! I like the chemistry between Emi and Maou, although I also love Chiho and would hate to break her heart. I also love the whole cracktastic atmosphere of the canon. No explicit sex, please.
Notes:
The series on Hulu
I’m only familiar with the anime. At only one season of 13 episodes, even this one could be a gimme in a pinch.
And that's it! Thanks so much for writing for me!
