Another
I got into that mood again and bolted another 12-episode anime pretty much in one day (ep 1 yesterday, the rest today). This time it was Another, and I was surprised how much I liked it; I'm not usually big into horror (Castlevania is more just gothic with only very occasional touches of actual fear and revulsion), and this was definitely horror with a mystery element, and it gets quite gruesome (just to warn anyone thinking of watching it). I don't have my head together enough for a proper review (all that comes to mind is the unintentionally amusing lack of hurry in the last couple of episodes), but I really enjoyed it.
Maybe related or maybe not, recently in my writing (or attempts thereof), I'm starting to think that I actually have a darker sensibility than I've previously owned to, like I just don't think of it that way because if a Frank Miller-esque hypermasculine brute showed up wanting to be a character in my stuff I'd arrange for the plot to grind him into pulp*, then get on to writing about people with recognizably human(e) issues and motives, my insistence on which makes me feel like a goody-two-shoes even as said issues and motives are more fun when they're thorny and messy, and that can go into dark areas in its own way...
*It'll probably never get written, but this literally happens to someone in my Psychic Force headcanon...
